In these challenging times, we wanted to shine a spotlight on Pace SBDC clients who are going above and beyond in their response to COVID-19, showing both generosity and innovation.

La Palapa

La Palapa Cocina Mexicana, an East Village-based Mexican restaurant, expanded delivery and outdoor dining to re-envision its business model post-COVID. With the financing through PPP and EIDL programs and operational and accounting guidance from Pace University SBDC, they were able to retain 62 jobs.

Lower East Side-based custom neon light studio, GLO Studio, had to temporally close its physical storefront due to COVID and with the assistance of Pace SBDC they successfully transitioned to operating exclusively online and also secured $200,000 financing from the PPP and EIDL programs.

Norwegian Baked

Pace SBDC helped Norwegian Baked owner Hedvig Bourbon develop a business plan as well as formalize bookkeeping procedures for her Brooklyn-based commercial kitchen. Further, post pandemic, Pace SBDC helped the business secure a PPP forgivable loan, enabling the business to save three jobs.

Harlem Baking Company

Harlem Baking Company (HBC), is a dessert brand that produces confections served in jars. With support from Pace SBDC business advisors Rawle Brown and Susan Gluck, HBC received help on business planning, access to financing, and market positioning as they expand into producing a line of dessert products.

The pandemic may have temporarily closed Grindhaus, but with the help of the Pace SBDC, the Red Hook, Brooklyn-based restaurant was able to reopen in January 2022 thanks to securing RRF grant and EIDL totaling $400,000.

Due to COVID-19, Gowanus based music school Brooklyn Music Factory has shifted to an online format providing much-needed programming for children all around the globe. They have also retained many jobs with the help of PPP and EIDL program.

Further, student groups from Pace University's Lubin School of Business presented customer acquisition recommendations for Bushwick Grind.

Yonkers-based Nahmias et Fils retooled their distillery from production of spirits to hand sanitizer. Combined with nearly $100,000 in COVID-19 financing and operational and accounting guidance from Pace SBDC, this new structure helped the client retain 4 jobs while providing much-needed materials.

Praise for Brooklyn Braised, a catering company founded in 2017 by Chef Christa Lynch. With guidance from Pace SBDC Business Advisor, Rawle Brown, Christa put together business plans and financial projections, and later obtained funding information that led the company to receive a $10,000 COVID-19 relief grant from Local Initiatives Support Corp.

Greenpoint Brooklyn-based LINE & LABEL has pivoted their clothing and jewelry design business to design and produce masks to many first responders, and as word spread organically, they have now produced hundreds more and shipped them to clients throughout Brooklyn and beyond.

Ripple Effect Artists

Ripple Effect Artists

Ripple Effect Artists is a non-profit theatre group whose motto is to make social impact through theatre and multimedia. With Pace SBDC's assistance they hired eight Pace students as interns, who have provided marketing support, including an Instagram Live project and various donor outreach initiatives.

To support Coronavirus first responders, Downtown Italian Restaurant Da Claudio has delivered 200 individually wrapped complete meals to front-line medical professionals at the New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, one for each $25 customer order donation.

Cantos Translations

Lower Manhattan-based Cantos Translations arranged the funding of a $50,000 grant program for black women-owned businesses. They have also secured donations of over 550 medical-grade masks for Brooklyn's Downstate Hospital, and provided 100 hours of pro bono work for nonprofit groups.
