Recapping Our May 18th, 2023 Small Business Lending Panel and Networking Event

On May 18th, 2023 the Pace University Small Business Development Center collaborated with the U.S. Small Business Administration's New York District Office to present a Small Business Lending Panel and Networking Event. This was our first large-scale event coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we were so excited to connect with entrepreneurs and small business lenders in-person for the first time in over three years on Pace University's Lower Manhattan campus.

This event connected nearly 200 small business owners with ten banking institutions and NYC community lenders and provided a forum where businesses could assess which lenders might be a good partner for their financing needs.

After light breakfast and networking, the event began with opening marks from Lawrence Singleton, Dean of the Lubin School of Business at Pace University, and Andrew Flamm, Regional Director of the Pace University Small Business Development Center. Attendees were introduced to the Pace SBDC's no-cost services, especially their assistance with business plan development and creating financial projections, and given an overview of the Small Business Administration's 7(a) and 504 programs.

Two panel discussions, one for community-based lenders and one for banking institutions, were moderated by Beth Goldberg, District Director at the U.S. Small Business Administration's New York District Office, to give attendees an overview of lending criteria and key considerations at each lending institution. The event concluded with more networking and the opportunity for entrepreneurs to have brief, one-on-one discussions with any lender they were particularly interested in.

We would like to thank everyone who attended this event and helped to make it a huge success, and the participating lenders (Pursuit, Lendistry, Flushing Bank, TruFund, Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union, NDC, Spring Bank, Ascendus, Key Bank, and City National Bank) for their partnership and support of NYC small businesses. A special thank you goes to the SBA's NY District Office for co-hosting, and to Lendistry, Pursuit, and Flushing Bank for their sponsorship.
