Webinar Recap: Crowdfunding for your Small Business
On May 5th, 2022, the Pace University SBDC hosted a crowdfunding webinar and invited representatives from crowdfunding platforms Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and Wefunder to speak with business owners about how raising capital from everyday supporters is an effective way to finance business launch and growth while also expanding one's audience.
Kicking off the event, Pace SBDC Regional Director Andrew Flamm and NY SBDC Social Media Specialist Renee Goodnow highlighted the myriad of ways NY SBDC Business Advisors can support crowdfunding campaigns, including assistance creating a compelling crowdfunding page, writing necessary financial statements and projections, accessing market research, evaluating project logistics and feasibility, and more! Each crowdfunding platform representative covered key aspects and considerations for using their respective fundraising platforms. Laura Feinstein, Senior Design and Technology Editor at Kickstarter, emphasized that successful crowdfunding campaigns tell compelling stories about why a given business owner is uniquely situated to take on a given project. Shyam Khakhria, Manager of Hardware and Design at Indiegogo, echoed that sentiment and honed in on Indiegogo's flexible, rewards-based fundraising program. Johnny Price, Vice President of Fundraising at Wefunder, wrapped up our conversation by highlighting Wefunder's equity based crowdfunding strategy and illustrating how a business's crowdfunding profile changes when they're targeting investors rather than customers.
