Mockingbird NYC
When intended business partners Evan Clark and Coulton Vento decided they wanted to open an alcohol-free cocktail bar in Park Slope, they knew they would need to obtain outside financing in addition to what they would be able to invest themselves. They came to the Pace SBDC for assistance in April of 2024.
Pace SBDC business advisor Greg Callender guided them through the entire process of applying for an SBA-backed loan. After reviewing Evan and Coulton's personal finances, he provided them with an estimate of how much they might be able to borrow. He then worked with them on multiple revisions of their business plan narrative and financial projections, reviewed all of their loan package supporting documents, and provided an introduction to Jason Kohl of Accompany Capital for financing consideration.
As they continued working on their venture while waiting for a loan decision, Greg helped them find the attorney who would represent them with lease negotiations and other matters. In October 2024 the clients were approved by Accompany Capital for $180,000, allowing them to create 12 jobs and get to a grand opening in time for Dry January 2025.
Said Evan and Coulton of working with the Pace SBDC: “Working with Greg and the SBDC really provided us amazing insight we otherwise would have not been aware of going into this venture. We felt very confident working with lenders and all of our expectations were met or exceeded in the entire process.”
